Qigong with Fred Chavez
Qi is the body's life force energy which is responsible for our vitality. Gong means skill, work or foundation.
Qigong (sometimes written as Chi Kung) then is the practice of accumulating and cultivating vital life force energy (qi) in the body. This is achieved through the coordination of physical exercises, meditation and visualization, and breathing exercises. Qigong developed into a systematic healing art that integrates body, mind and spirit and is a main branch of traditional Chinese medicine. The effects of qigong practice include prevention and healing of disease, relief from stress, improved physical strength, improved mental focus, improved sexual function, spiritual enrichment and a slowing of the aging process.
Tai Chi and Qigong are taught by Fred Chavez who has been a tai chi (taiji) and qigong practitioner since 1992. During that time he has studied the Chen, Yang and Sun styles of tai chi and numerous forms of qigong.
He has been a Certified Tai Chi for Arthritis (TCA) Instructor with the Arthritis Foundation since January 2007. In December 2008, he became a Certified Instructor of Evidence-Based Taiji and Qigong (EBT) with the Center for Taiji and Qigong Studies. (www.centerfortaiji.com)

"FLY" A Nia Immersion Experience with Adelle and Joanie!.... for everyBODY!
Join Adelle and Joanie for a weekend of Nia fun as we dance to the new Nia routine Fly in weekend classes, and a playshop for EveryBody.
The Playshop will be a fun hour as we learn the moves of the new Nia routine Fly!
The focus of Fly is the 'FAMSS,'... The five sensations of functional fitness... Flexibility, Agility, Mobility, Strength, and Stability.
Fly is a collaborative creation between Nia Trainers Megan MacArthur, Kelle Rae Oien, Kevin VerEecke, Winalee Zeeb, and Ann Christiansen. Fly consciously integrates FAMSS into every Nia move and choreography sequence. Challenge your body with creative Lateral Traveling and clock stepping patterns as you find expression through emotive body postures and vocal sounding. Optimize your physical fitness using anaerobic conditioning techniques, training yourself to reach the point of “enough” as you dance to an edgy mix of pop, rock, hip-hop, and world music.
Adelle and Joanie will team teach the routine on Friday, May 17, at 5:30 pm, and on Saturday, May 18 at 9:30 am.
Sunday, May 19, 2013. At 2:30 pm we will have a special workshop for everyBody where we will learn the main movements of the routine and then bring the movements alive in our 4:00 pm class. Nia teachers will share the magic of the Fly Nia routine.

San Antonio Ecstatic Dance!
San Antonio Ecstatic Dance invites you to join in the formation of a new dance community. The process is evolving and exciting. This dance is created by the community, in the community, to serve the community. Contribute your presence. Dance from your essence. The time is now to express whatever it is you want, to be whoever you are, and take your place on the dance floor!
Movement, rhythm, and music have been used by cultures throughout the world for millennia to induce healing and ecstatic states of being. Gathering together in community on the dance floor, in movement, music, and breath activates potent life force energy for creation and transformation. Ecstatic dance may be used as a form of active meditation or prayer where music from around the world combined with free-form self-guided movement and breath are used to shift brain wave patterns from the day-to-day busyness to the more meditative and insightful alpha state. In this state, you may more easily access creative and expanded visions of your life and purpose. At the very least, you will exercise, release tension, and have fun!
Fridays, May 10; 24
Time: 7:00-9:00 pm
Sliding scale donation, $8-$20/person cash only
**No need to pre-register... just bring your body and your love of dance!

Upon graduation, you are eligible to become a livelihood member. As a livelihood member, you obtain a teaching license (whether you decide to use it or not) and have exclusive access to an in-depth continuing education program, an online forum, and special benefits and privileges. Advance your practice?
New to yoga?
A consistent yoga practice can help!
Individuals instinctually work on what they want to achieve, not necessarily what they need. This inevitably causes imbalances that lead to future pain or a feeling of dissatisfaction, which predictably leads to a disinterest in maintaining a well-rounded healthy lifestyle.
Why Yoga for pain and/or personalized strength/flexibility training?
Yoga has much support from medical literature in which it has been described as far superior to relieve pain than standard clinical exercise. This has led to the health care business to rethink its limited ability to be a well-rounded and preventative program. This Eastern system of exercise can yield relief of impairments and disabilities and promote mobility, functional ability, quality of life and movement potential through examination, evaluation, and personalized treatment. This is because yoga therapy is measurable andholistic.
